What is the International Day of Education

Education is a human right, a public good, and a collective responsibility. That’s why the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as the International Day of Education: a moment to reflect on the vital role education plays in fostering peace, opportunity, and sustainable development worldwide.

At its heart, International Day of Education is about ensuring that everyone, everywhere, has access to inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education, as well as lifelong learning opportunities. Education is one of the most powerful tools we have to achieve gender equality, break cycles of generational poverty, and create fairer, healthier, and more resilient societies.

As a certified B Corp, this message resonates deeply with us at Jump. Our mission calls on us to look beyond short-term gains and consider the wider impact of our work — on people, communities, and future generations. Through the clients we choose to work with and the opportunities we create for emerging talent, we are committed to playing our part in shaping a better tomorrow.

Key Themes and Focus Areas for 2026

For 2026, International Day of Education highlights several themes that feel especially relevant in today’s rapidly changing world — themes that will directly influence the futures of young people everywhere.

The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education

Recognising young people as active participants in shaping their own education is fundamental. Students are not just recipients of knowledge; they are co-creators of learning. Actively involving youth in decisions about how, what, and why they learn helps education systems better reflect their aspirations, talents, and realities.

This is particularly important at a time of significant technological transformation. As the world of work evolves, so too must our approaches to teaching and learning, placing curiosity, adaptability, and creativity at the centre.

AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation

Technology, and AI in particular, is reshaping education at an unprecedented pace. While it brings huge opportunities for access, personalisation, and innovation, it also raises important questions about ethics, agency, and equity. The challenge (and responsibility) lies in ensuring technology enhances learning without diminishing human connection, critical thinking, or creativity. In an increasingly automated world, preserving human agency will become fundamental.

Funding and Educators

Education systems are only as strong as the people who power them. The United Nations call on governments and institutions to invest meaningfully in public education by supporting, valuing, and protecting educators. Teachers play an irreplaceable role in shaping lives, communities, and futures: sustained investment is essential to ensure that education remains a force for good.

Why it Matters

Education underpins progress at every level of society.

It’s a Human Right

Education is fundamental to dignity, opportunity, and freedom. It is essential for reducing poverty and advancing gender equality.

Its Role In the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Quality education is central to achieving the UN’s SDGs, particularly SDG 4, and acts as a catalyst for progress across all global goals.

Peace and Progress

By fostering critical thinking, empathy, and understanding, education supports innovation, economic development, and more peaceful societies.

Our Involvement in Education

Education Clients

As a certified B Corp, we believe business has a responsibility to contribute to a fairer, more equitable future. Education is central to that mission.

Education creates opportunity, builds confidence, and drives long-term social change. That’s why we actively work with schools, colleges, universities, and learning-focused organisations that are expanding access, championing inclusivity, and preparing people for a rapidly changing world.

Through our creative and strategic work, we help education providers communicate clearly, connect meaningfully, and reach the communities they serve. At the same time, we invest in education within our own business by supporting early-career pathways, including apprenticeships, that turn learning into real-world opportunity.

For us, supporting education isn’t a side project — it’s a practical expression of our values as a B Corp, and a commitment to building a better tomorrow. To prove our commitment, we have set ourselves a goal: to ensure that at least 50% of our annual turnover comes from collaborating with purpose-led clients, including learning-focused organisations. In 2023, we reached 31%. In 2024, that figure has grown to 36%. The road is long, but the progress we’re making is undeniable.

Ollie’s apprenticeship

Our commitment to education doesn’t stop with our clients. It also shapes how we invest in emerging talent.

Our marketing team includes our apprentice, Ollie, who is currently completing a multi-channel marketing apprenticeship at Jump in partnership with digital learning provider Estio. His apprenticeship covers social media, SEO, website design, email marketing, and GDPR best practices — all grounded in real-world application.

Working and studying remotely, Ollie balances his responsibilities with confidence and flexibility, bringing a positive, can-do attitude that has quickly made him an invaluable part of the team. As he enters the closing stages of his apprenticeship, he is completing a final project that demonstrates how he applies his learning directly within a business environment.

Reflecting on his experience, Ollie says:

The apprenticeship has helped me build both my knowledge and confidence. It’s been especially valuable because I can take what I learn and put it straight into practice at work, helping me improve the quality of my output and grow in my role.

Supporting apprenticeships is one small but meaningful way we can help bridge education and opportunity and ensure learning leads to tangible, lasting outcomes.

Looking Ahead

Meaningful change is rarely easy. But when businesses, educators, non-profits, and creatives work together, momentum builds. Barriers fall. Progress becomes possible.

On this International Day of Education, we’re proud to stand alongside those who believe learning is not just a pathway to employment, but a foundation for justice, creativity, and hope. As a B Corp, we will continue to prioritise purpose, invest in education, and use our skills to support those shaping a better future.

Because when education thrives, so does everything else.

Today is International Day of Education!
