As we celebrate B Corp Month, we have a valuable opportunity to reflect on the decision we made in 2020 to become a B Corp and to consider how that commitment has reshaped our company in ways that are both practical and profound.

The most significant shift has been the move from intention to structure. Since before certification, we cared deeply about our environmental impact, about the wellbeing of our team, and about building strong, ethical relationships with clients and suppliers. What B Corp introduced was a framework that required those commitments to be formalised, measured, and continuously improved. Values that once relied primarily on culture are now embedded in systems, metrics, and transparent reporting cycles.

Our environmental performance, for example, is now tracked with far greater precision, including detailed measurement of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. We have clearer targets, stronger data, and a more disciplined approach to understanding where our impact sits and how it can be reduced. Reporting is no longer a retrospective exercise, it is part of how we manage the business in real time. The process has sharpened our thinking and strengthened our accountability.

This structural change has influenced everyday decision-making. Impact is considered alongside financial performance as part of a single conversation about long-term success. Trade-offs are assessed with a broader perspective. Continuous improvement has become part of the company’s operating rhythm, supported by evidence rather than assumption. Teams understand how their work connects to measurable objectives, which creates alignment and shared purpose.

Externally, the difference is equally meaningful. Independent assessment and public scoring provide credibility that strengthens trust with clients and partners. In a marketplace where sustainability claims are often questioned, transparency carries weight. Being able to demonstrate that our commitments are independently verified gives confidence to those who work with us and reinforces the integrity of our relationships.

At the same time, becoming a B Corp connected us to a global community of businesses that share a commitment to raising standards. B Corp Month brings that collective effort into focus, highlighting the fact that thousands of organisations are operating within the same framework and pushing forward together. That sense of shared responsibility creates momentum and reinforces the understanding that responsible business practice is becoming embedded across industries.

Alongside strengthening our internal standards, becoming a B Corp has deepened our commitment to volunteering and to playing a more active role in the communities around us. Over the past few years, we have formalised time and support for volunteering, encouraging our team to contribute skills and energy to causes that align with our values, and ensuring that community engagement is not left to spare moments but recognised as a meaningful part of how we operate. We have also become a more engaged member of Beyond The Block, the Hertfordshire-based B Corp community, building stronger relationships with fellow local businesses who share the same commitment to responsible growth.

What's next?

Looking ahead, our focus is firmly on progression. Recertification will raise expectations, and we are preparing to meet that challenge by improving our impact score, deepening our environmental performance, refining the accuracy and transparency of our data, and strengthening oversight across our value chain. Emissions reduction remains a central priority, and we are committed to setting clearer, more ambitious targets supported by robust measurement and open reporting.

We are focused on increasing transparency around our journey, sharing both progress and areas where further work is required. Openness strengthens trust and ensures that accountability remains visible rather than implied.

Since 2020, B Corp certification has changed the company by embedding measurable standards, strengthening accountability, and elevating transparency across the business. As we celebrate B Corp Month, we recognise how far we have come and renew our commitment to going further still, building on this foundation with discipline, clarity, and sustained ambition. The journey continues, and we approach the next chapter with confidence grounded in structure, data, and a shared commitment to responsible growth.
