Today, 16th October, is World Food Day! World Food Day is one of the most celebrated days in the UN calendar, with action taking place across 150 countries worldwide. And not only that: 2025 marks its 80th anniversary.

This year’s theme is Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future. It emphasises the importance of global collaboration to transform food systems for a peaceful, sustainable, and food-secure future with healthy diets for all.

Why World Food Day Matters to Us

Why celebrate World Food Day, though?

Jump’s ethos has always been to “give back”: to our clients, employees, community, and environment. One of the ways we like to give back is by encouraging our team to volunteer their time and effort to causes close to their hearts. This year, many members of our team have volunteered with The Felix Project, a London-based charity fighting food waste.

The Felix Project’s volunteers and staff collect surplus food daily from supermarkets, restaurants, and suppliers (food that would otherwise be discarded) and deliver it to those in need, like schools, charities, and food banks. They bridge excess and need, transforming waste into hope and nourishment.

Initiatives like The Felix Project remind us of what community really means — and encourage us to actively work for a better future.

Our Food Clients

Our volunteering efforts aren’t the only thing drawing us to World Food Day. As a proud B Corp, there’s nothing we value more than working with fellow B Corps and companies that share our values.

We’re proud to supply so many amazing food companies that, through each part of their business models, aim to make the food supply chain more equitable, sustainable, and accessible. These companies work hard to make healthy, high-quality food available to all, reduce their carbon emissions, and give back to their community.

Food Client Spotlight – Mindful Chef

We have been working with Mindful Chef for over 10 years, and our partnership goes way beyond just doing business.

As a B Corp, Mindful Chef share many of our goals and initiatives. Reaching Net Zero by 2030 and encouraging our teams to volunteer their time to causes they care about are just a couple of them. We even clean beaches together!

Mindful Chef live up to their name every step of the way. Whenever possible, they seek out producers who stay close to their mindful, sustainable values. Through the LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) initiative, they work with UK-based farmers who improve soil health, reduce carbon footprints, minimise energy use, protect wildlife, and enhance biodiversity. Lastly, their partnership with charity One Feeds Two ensures that for every recipe box sold, a meal is donated to a school-aged child living in poverty.

Food Client Spotlight – GOOD PHATS

Who hasn’t fallen victim to the fearmongering around fats? From oils to butters, we’ve grown to know them as harbingers of bad health and clogged arteries.

After discovering the health benefits of a ketogenic diet, GOOD PHATS founders Tom and Ben decided to dedicate their work to rehabilitating the reputation of all sorts of fats.

While hunger and food insecurity plague a far too big portion of our society, the other half struggles with poor diets and obesity. GOOD PHATS operates with a mission to educate consumers about high-quality fats and to create accessible options for all cooking needs.

Everyone deserves access to truly good food for a healthy diet: GOOD PHATS remind us that there is no such thing as “bad” food, only low-quality options.

Food Client Spotlight – punchy

Boasting healthy blends of minerals, vitamins, and electrolytes, punchy is another brand on a mission to turn “bad” ingredients — in their case, soft drinks — into a force for good.

A certified B Corp, punchy is committed to carbon reduction and a cleaner supply chain. Their manufacturer has clear zero-waste and wastewater reduction policies and plans to be Net Zero by 2035. All their packaging — from cans to outer boxes — is 100% recyclable and, when possible, made of recycled material. punchy’s production and warehouse sites are located in the same county, reducing unnecessary mileage within their supply chain.

Lastly, punchy works closely with charity FareShare, which targets food surplus opportunities and redistributes them to frontline charities. Each year, punchy donates 1% of their total revenue to FareShare.

How Other Businesses Can Shape the Food Environment Towards Affordable, Healthy Diets

The private sector, from food manufacturers and retailers to financial institutions and media companies, can play a role in shaping the food environment towards affordable, healthy diets.

At Jump, we strongly believe in using business as a force for good — and so do many of our clients. Giving back to our community through volunteering for The Felix Project is just one of the many things we do to truly deliver change.

If you share our goal to use your business as a driver of change, start from this advice from FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations):

Promote Social Responsibility

Integrating sustainable practices, investing in green technologies, and fostering inclusive growth can contribute to eradicating poverty, ending hunger, protecting the planet, and advancing social and economic development.

Support Family-Owned and Small-Scale Farmers and Producers

If your company produces fertilisers, seeds, farming equipment, animal drugs, or other farming products, prioritising small, family-owned farms and producers in your operations can do wonders for creating a better food environment.

Encourage Inclusive Growth

Creating fairer and more resilient food systems begins with inclusivity. Foster gender equality by implementing inclusive hiring practices, ensuring equal wages and protection, offering women-specific training and development programs, providing equal access to resources and opportunities, and maintaining a safe workplace with proper facilities.

Make Healthy Food Affordable

Food companies and manufacturers should focus on providing foods that are both nutritious and affordable. Reducing saturated fats, trans fats, added sugars, and salt, along with collaborations that align with public health goals, are helpful steps in that direction.

Prioritise Food Safety

On top of that, food companies and manufacturers should prioritise food quality and safety across the supply chain — especially in developing nations.

Be Sustainable

While agrifood systems are responsible for more than one-third of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, sustainability is every enterprise’s responsibility. No matter the field or size of your business, responsible practices of production and consumption should be top of mind.

Promote Financial Inclusion

If your company is in the financial sector, helping local farming communities or economically marginalised groups can massively boost the local economy. Supporting these groups not only fosters growth but also builds a stronger, more connected community.

Educate Your Audience

Don’t forget to get your audience involved! Today’s consumers are more sustainably-minded than ever: whatever field you operate in, leverage your reach to educate the public about healthy diets, sustainable production, and issues related to hunger and obesity.

Become Real Partners for Development

It's important for the private sector to be actively involved in global sustainable development. As businesses, we can help by creating inclusive markets, focusing on core principles like human rights and accountability, and by supporting both international organisations and local nonprofits when working in developing countries.

Promote Innovation

Strong partnerships among companies, governments, and farmer organisations are essential to ensure that innovations are relevant, affordable, and tailored to local needs.

Work with FAO and Other Businesses for a More Sustainable and Healthy Future

Collaborating with FAO and other like-minded businesses is fundamental for creating a more sustainable and healthy future for everyone.

Happy World Food Day!
