As a printer, Jump Design and Print (Jump), became increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their industry and didn’t want to sit back, accept things as they were and do nothing. Jump decided to make a change and in doing so help their clients make positive changes too. They thrive on helping their clients make an impact with their customers; an impact that helps them to grow and to succeed. But Jump doesn’t want that positive impact to negatively affect the environment. And, that’s when they started to do things differently. Their focus was on craftsmanship, quality, speed, and price, but Jump realised they can achieve all four and be more mindful of their environment. As such, they educated themselves on how best to print smartly, sustainably, and mindfully.
A significant step along this journey was to become a certified Carbon Balanced Printer with the World Land Trust. Tony Napodano, Founder and Director of Jump Design & Print, says, “As part of our continuing effort to be a leader in sustainable printing, we are thrilled to become one of just a handful of certified Carbon Balanced Printers in the UK. Despite a challenging year, sustainability remains paramount for us as a business, and we know this commitment is shared by many of our clients.”
Dan Bradbury, Director of Communications and Development at World Land Trust, says, “WLT welcomes the support of Jump Design & Print. Carbon Balanced Print and Paper supports World Land Trust projects in Vietnam, one of the most biologically diverse countries on Earth. It is also one of the fastest growing economies in the world, which is putting immense pressure on its exceptional biodiversity.”
WLT offsets emissions by protecting threatened habitats that would otherwise have been lost, avoiding the release of stored carbon. This also enables the regeneration of degraded habitats, which gradually re-absorb atmospheric CO2. Protecting these habitats not only helps tackle climate change, but also helps protect the dozens of threatened species which call the forests of Khe Nuoc Trong, Vietnam, home.
The urgent need to protect tropical habitats and the unique species residing in them has been further amplified by the recent and very powerful documentaries by Sir David Attenborough. A patron of World Land Trust since 2003, Sir David has previously stated, “The money that is given to World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of.”
Users of Carbon Balanced Print can proudly demonstrate their positive action by using the highly visible World Land Trust logo on their printed material. As Carbon Balanced Printers, Jump are also able to offer their customers certificates to highlight the amount of CO2 balanced and the area of land protected.
In addition to becoming a Carbon Balanced Printer, Jump is revolutionising the paradigm of ethics in the printing industry. Their portfolio of social and environmental activities is impressive and includes a commitment to planting 100,000 trees by 2030 and remaining a net zero emissions company; they use vegetable-based inks in order to remove toxins produced from their products; they conduct beach clean-ups as a team, to remove damaging plastic waste from our UK shoreline; they make annual donations to various charities across the UK in the healthcare and education sectors; and they are striving to become one of the UK’s first printers to be awarded the prestigious B Corp certification.
